Security and Forensic Research Group won Gold Medal at Malaysia Technology Expo 2013

Developers and researchers from Security and Forensic Research Group (SFRG), led by Assoc. Prof. Aman Jantan
has won one out of three gold medal for Universiti Sains Malaysia in Malaysia Technology Expo 2013 at PWTC, Kuala Lumpur.
Dr. Aman Jantan, an Assoiate Professor at School of Computer Sciences USM has introduced EMFORCI - Email Forensic Tool
for Cyber Investigation at the exhibition to facilitate cyber-crime investigator as well as cyber forensic agent in
investigating cyber-crime cases involving emails such as fraud, scam, phishing, pornography, malware distribution, etc.
The system is enhanced with the abilities to perform intelligent analysis on the gathered emails, and develop the needed
case's profiles such as timeline and correlations or relevancies of email communications.
Assoc. Prof. Aman Jantan also said that EMFORCI is equipped with Password Extractor to extract password from an
email server in case an agent failed to get the needed password from suspected criminal.

This is the third product that has been introduced by Assoc. Prof. Aman Jantan since the successful of
Malware Analysis and Prediction System (MAPS) which secure the Gold Medal in International Invention,
Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2012 and Forensic Analysis and Discovery System (FADS) in Malaysia Technology Expo 2012.

School of Computer Science Lecturer Won GoMobile inOVATION MALAYSIA 2012

 

 

 

 

Researchers from the Computer Vision Research Group (CVRG), School of Computer Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) emerged as winners at the GoMobile inOvation Malaysia 2012 Awards (Business Mobility Category) held in Kuala Lumpur. The award presented last week was for their research product-ENDEAVOR-Mobile.

ENDEAVOR-Mobile is the world’s first fully Android-based Mobile Teleradiology Collaboration Platform, and works on a wide range of Android-based smartphones and tablet devices. Its Live Image Case discussion feature enables doctors to immediately obtain expert opinions on critical medical cases from their colleagues, regardless of time and location.

The inOvation Malaysia Awards, were instituted to honour the most innovative products and services in the Malaysian mobile arena. The awards were created by GoMobile with the active support of Maxis. Project leader Prof. Mandava Rajeswari received the award from the Deputy Minister of Information, Communication and Culture Malaysia, YB Dato' Joseph Salang.

Safety Apps Rings in First Prize

Gynoid a team from the School of Computer Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia had won the first contest Samsung AppStar 2012 on Thursday, November 29, 2012 in Kuala Lumpur with their invention Gynoid App that provides emergency alerts to smart phones in an effort to prevent crime.

The team consisted of final year students of computer science Melody Foong, Jo Lynn and Ang Hoong Hooi Lean receive prize money amounting to RM24, 000 and 3 units of the smartphone Samsung Galaxy S III. Samsung AppStar 2012 is a platform for the youth of Malaysia to compete and display their creative invention and innovation in the development of mobile applications.

Universiti Sains Malaysia wins 2014 F-Secure inter-varsity IT Security competition

With 255 points ahead, team N2L from University Sains Malaysia (USM) was crowned as the
champion for 2014 F-Secure Inter-Varsity IT Security Competition! The competition,
initiated by F-Secure and MDeC (Multimedia Development Corporation),
was aimed at nurturing local talents and encouraging more Malaysian undergraduates
to venture into the field of IT security through education.

The lecturer in-charge for team N2L and The Bounty Hunters are respectively
Dr. Manmeet Mahinderjit Singh (as well as the F-Secure USM Coordinator)
and Assoc.Prof Dr.Azman Samsudin  from the School of Computer Sciences.

Out of 57 teams that sat for the qualifying test in the F-Secure Security competition,
9 teams qualified and were selected for the Semifinal.
N2L and The Bounty Hunters were two groups from USM that had succeeded into the Semi-Final.


The finale challenge featured a jeopardy-like course comprising different categories
and levels that tested the participants’ hands-on skills and knowledge.
All three teams were given three laptops each and they were required to complete each tasks
within the fastest time and the one with the highest score is then crowned the champion
of the 2014 F-Secure Inter-Varsity IT Security Competition.

After a two-hour intense battle, the champion walked away with three MacBooks worth RM5, 000 each.
The 1st runner-up, team The Bounty Hunter received three Microsoft Surface Tablets worth RM2, 000 each
and the 2nd runner-up, team Xposure walked away with three smart-watches worth RM500 each.
In addition, all three participating teams were also presented with 1-year
premium F-Secure Internet and Mobile security protection.
N2L team from University Sains Malaysia was cheering loudly when they were announced as the winner
for the competition. Being final year students majoring in Computer Science,
this first timer was made of Lim Yen Sheng (24), Lee Chi Ngan (23) and Law Jia Jge (23).
“We are overjoyed when the result was announced as we never saw it coming,”
Lim said. Lee added, “We are glad to have strategized well throughout the competition
by assigning one another to be fully prepared on our core strengths as well as to push our limits to overcome our weaker subject areas”.
