Safety Apps Rings in First Prize
Gynoid a team from the School of Computer Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia had won the first contest Samsung AppStar 2012 on Thursday, November 29, 2012 in Kuala Lumpur with their invention Gynoid App that provides emergency alerts to smart phones in an effort to prevent crime.
The team consisted of final year students of computer science Melody Foong, Jo Lynn and Ang Hoong Hooi Lean receive prize money amounting to RM24, 000 and 3 units of the smartphone Samsung Galaxy S III. Samsung AppStar 2012 is a platform for the youth of Malaysia to compete and display their creative invention and innovation in the development of mobile applications.
This contest campaign that lasted 5 months had received more than 3.700 participants from over 40 universities and colleges in Malaysia and ended with the selection of the 12 best teams by jury.
The school also proud of another team of School of Computer Sciences first year students Wong Kim Hau, and Yoong Chia Siu Ting Chuan Yen who got selected among 12 best teams.
This is a good effort among students to start a creative and innovative activities in the early stages of their studies at Universiti Sains Malaysia.
