USM Wins Top Prize at Huawei ICT Global Finals
The TehTarikTech team from Universiti Sains Malaysia won First Prize in the Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 Global Finals under the Innovation Track.
The team consists of three third-year Computer Science students, Bok Wei Hong, Lim Miin Ning, and Naomi Tham Kah Mun—under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. Chong Yung Wey.
Before reaching the international stage, they had already secured victory at the national level, earning the right to represent Malaysia at the Asia-Pacific round, where they also took First Prize.
In the competition, the team introduced an innovation called Third Eye Shield, a monitoring system designed to address the challenges of a growing global elderly population.
The system integrates the DeepSeek Large Language Model (LLM) with Huawei Cloud computing to detect emergencies such as falls and send early alerts to caregivers.
Beyond safety, the innovation also focuses on the mental well-being of both the elderly and their caregivers through user-friendly smart interactions.
The project further emphasizes the ethical use of AI and the protection of user data privacy.
